The Treasure Awaits: How Loot Cards Keep Our Games Running Smoothly!
Hey Demayth Community,
I wanted to give you a peek behind the curtain at another tool I use to keep our Demayth sessions feeling fast-paced and engaging: Loot Cards!
In many TTRPGs, the process of giving out loot and treasure can often slow down the game's flow. Players might spend a lot of time poring over lists, debating items, or waiting for the Game Master to describe every piece of treasure. While that has its place, I wanted a more streamlined solution for our sessions.
That's where Loot Cards come in! These are special cards used to quickly and efficiently award players with treasure, magical items, and other rewards without holding up the game. Instead of a long description or a deep dive into a book, a player simply draws a Loot Card and instantly knows what they've found.
This is just another feature I love to use to keep the game running smoothly. The goal is to maximize the time spent on the fun stuff—the role-playing, the combat, and the epic storytelling—and minimize the time spent on administrative tasks. Loot Cards are a perfect example of how small design choices can have a big impact on the overall rhythm and enjoyment of the game.
What other game design features do you appreciate in TTRPGs that keep things moving? Let me know in our discord!
