Epic Adventures & Smooth Gameplay: This Week's Demayth Session Was FIRE!
I like to take quick photos of my players, and make a lot of memories along the way. I wish I would do this more often throughout the years I had been in Demayth, but I would too focused on the session than taking a photo.
Hey Demayth Community,
Wow, what a session we had this week! Seriously blown away by the energy and excitement of our players. It was a night packed with incredible moments, and I wanted to share some highlights:
Loot Cards = WIN! The feedback on the Loot Cards was overwhelmingly positive! Players loved how smoothly they integrated into the game, keeping the action flowing and ensuring no one had to wait around while treasure was being distributed. So glad this is helping everyone stay immersed!
Double the Trouble, Double the Fun! We even had a point where the party split, tackling two completely different scenarios at the same time – one facing a flurry of ferocious flying harpies, and the other unraveling the mysteries of demigods trapped in a mind-bending time loop! It was a blast weaving between the two groups, keeping the momentum and tension high in both encounters.
Engaged Players are Happy Players! Using a mix of the dungeon crawl minigame and those handy Loot Cards, along with keeping a consistent narrative thread going for both groups, the engagement levels were through the roof! It's so rewarding to see everyone invested and having a great time.
Personal Quests & Epic Loot! On top of the main challenges, players were also pursuing their own personal goals and snagging some awesome loot along the way. Seeing those individual stories unfold within the larger narrative is what Demayth is all about.
From my end as a Battle Master, it was definitely a night of juggling! Managing multiple enemy stats and keeping track of all those extra effects across two simultaneous scenarios was a fun challenge (though my mental notepad was definitely working overtime!). But seeing everyone so engaged and having such a blast makes all the effort completely worth it.
Huge shoutout to our growing community of players and Battle Masters! Your enthusiasm fuels these incredible sessions.
Dungeon Crawls are played with like a minigame aspect, players each take an action that contribute to the party’s overall success, and keeps things moving forward. However, I do like to let each player shine by allowing them to do things that only their character is capable of doing.
Everyone typically has something to offer going into a session, during the session, and this allows everyone to be able to engage into game at all times. I rarely find people reaching for their phones, or doing others things other than playing the game.
I also wanted to give you a deeper look behind the curtain at a system we've been using in our Demayth Adventures sessions that has been a huge hit with players: our Dungeon Crawl Minigame! This is more than just a set of rules; it's a structured framework that's designed to keep every delve exciting, thematic, and most importantly, smooth and engaging.
Forget the slow, room-by-room slog of a traditional dungeon. In Demayth, we break the journey into broad, thematic "Sections." Each section is a distinct area with its own unique atmosphere, its own set of primary objectives (called Progress Points), and its own Threat Level that dictates the general hostility of the area. This approach allows us to focus on the big picture of your adventure and the key challenges you need to overcome.
At the heart of the minigame is the Delve Round, a dynamic gameplay loop that keeps everyone on their toes.
The Approach: You decide your team's pace. A Cautious approach takes longer but reduces the chance of danger. A Hasty approach gets you through faster but increases the risk, and you suffer a penalty to your exploration (or skill) checks.
The Danger Die: This is my favorite part! Each round, I roll a Danger Die based on your approach, the Section's Threat Level, and how much noise your party is making. The result determines what happens next, creating a spectrum of events from a quiet "Lull" to a "Catastrophe" that can completely change the dungeon!
Survival Checks: Every Delve Round has consequences. When you're outside the safety of a city, new Hunger, Thirst, and Sanity attributes come into play. You have to make a saving throw to maintain these, or risk suffering debilitating effects that can push your Demigod to their limits.
This entire minigame is designed to be elegant and flexible, allowing us to seamlessly blend role-playing, combat, and exploration. The system enables me to throw in random enemies at any time without disrupting the flow of the game, keeping the action and player engagement constantly high.
Tabletop Night at Paradox~!
Remember that Tabletop night at Paradox is coming this way once again! Will we be there? We are still considering this as this was a big part of how we got Demayth going in the first place, so we are fingers crossed for doing something fun at this event!
