The Flow of Wealth: A Deep Dive into Demayth's Currency

Hey Demayth Community,

I wanted to share another fascinating snippet from the lore of the Demayth universe, this time focusing on the diverse and magical forms of currency that facilitate trade and power across the realms. In a world as complex as this, wealth is measured in more than just gold!

Geni and Ceni: The Pillars of Commerce The most common and widely accepted currencies are Geni and Ceni. These aren't just simple coins; they are a testament to the blend of magic and craftsmanship.

  • Geni: Rectangular notes woven with fine threads of mithril. They are remarkably durable and resistant to magical damage, with intricate designs and magical inscriptions that prevent counterfeiting. Each Geni bill is worth 100 Ceni.

  • Ceni: Coins crafted from an alloy of gold, palladium, and mithril. They are imbued with powerful protective magic, making them virtually impossible to melt down, duplicate, or alter.

These two forms of currency were created by a Demigod artificer named Haru Montu to standardize trade during the Exalted Generation. Their continued production requires rare materials and the blessing of an Intent God, ensuring their value remains stable.

Specialized Forms of Wealth Beyond Geni and Ceni, a variety of other currencies circulate throughout the universe:

  • General Trader/Merchant's Gold Coins: These coins are often used for larger transactions, though their value can fluctuate wildly, ranging from 10 to 100 Geni per coin.

  • Religious Magical Coins: Many cults and religious orders have their own unique coins, often imbued with minor magical properties. Their value is typically limited to that specific religious context.

  • Demayth Stones/Shards: These are crystallized fragments of raw Demayth energy. Their value is determined by their rarity and potency, and they are a common form of trade among Demigods and magic-users.

  • Divine Coins: An exceedingly rare and potent currency, said to be crafted by Duryin, the Divine Smith. These coins are made from a physical form of Demayth magic, are indestructible by mortal means, and are used primarily for transactions between the Exalted Ones and the Elder Divine themselves.

From the common Geni to the legendary Divine Coins, the economic landscape of Demayth is as intricate as its magical traditions. Understanding these currencies is essential for navigating the markets and appreciating the forces that shape the destinies of individuals and nations.
